Samsung Galaxy S5 Rumor Round-up.
The Samsung Galaxy S5 is probably one of the most anticipated smartphones of 2014. Here's what I know so far. The GS5 is going to have a screen size of 5.25 inches with a 2K Super Amoled display. The screen resolution is going to be 2560 by 1440 with a pixel density of around 560. A 560 ppi (pixels per inch) is pretty high for a smartphone these days so there is no doubt that the Galaxy S5's screen is really the icing on top of the cake. But don't get too excited because rumor's suggest that Samsung will move away from Super Amoled panels in the future and go back to LCD panels to save money.
Let's move on to the camera. Rumors have it that the GS5 is going to have a 16 megapixel camera and I don't know if optical image stabalization is going to be included. That's a slight bump up from the 13 MP camera on the Galaxy S4. The GS5's camera is going to come with all the bells and whistles from the GS4.
For the battery life, rumors say that the GS5 is going to carry a 2,900 MAh battery which is an improvement from the 2,600 MAh battery on the previous generation. The battery life is something that nobody really knows a lot about so I'll just take that with a grain of salt.
There will very likely be a retina scanner and also a fingerprint scanner to compete with Apple's iPhone 5s. It looks like fingerprint scanners are really going to be the bomb this year and more and more companies are jumping along the fingerprint scanner bandwagon.
The GS5 might have a 64-bit processor like the iPhone 5s. Rumors also say that the Galaxy S5 will sport a whopping 4 gigabites of RAM. If there is no 64-bit processor, then the next procesor will likely be a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 quad core chip clocked at 2.5 GHz backed by an Adreno 330 GPU.
For the build quality, lots of rumors state that there will be two versions of the GS5. A premium metal version, and a regular plastic version. But it has been confirmed that Samsung's next flagship device will come in metal.
When it come to pricing, its the most vague topic for rumor sites but if there are plastic and metal version, that plastic versions will definitely be less expensive that the metal version.
There is no word on the thickness yet.
The Galaxy S5 will come with all of the features from the Galaxy S4 and Galaxy Note 3 such as air view, smart stay, smart pause, air gesture, all the camera modes, and much more.
The operating system for the GS5 will very likely be Android 4.4 Kit-Kat. Hopefully, Samsung isn't planning on ditching Android and going for Tizen.
The release date will probably be somewhere in late February or early March. The Galaxy S5 might launch at the MWC (Mobile World Congress) in Barcelona Spain on February 24th. Samsung scheduled a Samsung Unpacked 5 Episode 1 on the same date. Samsung only uses its Unpacked episodes for big device launches like for the Galaxy S and Galaxy Note series.
I've also heard that the premium metal version of the GS5 is going to come with a curved, flexible screen like the LG G Flex based on rumors but that has died down lately and disappeared.
That's all I have so far but I'll keep you updated.
